The Oregon-Davis School Board continues moving forward with the process of doing away with board member districts. Back in October, board members passed a resolution to make the change in the board’s organizational plan. On Monday, they approved another resolution as the next step, according to Superintendent Dr. Don Harman.
“This was the same resolution that was approved in October,” Harman explains. “However, there are deadlines and timelines that we have to get that published in The Leader, and so we had to have the board approve that again.”
Currently, three of the school board members represent specific districts, while the other two are at-large members. Under the proposal, all five members would be elected on an at-large basis, meaning they could live anywhere in Oregon and Davis townships.
Harman says there are still more steps to go, to complete the change. “There’s a very long process that we must go through different timelines and steps with the Department of Ed,” he adds.
He says the hope is to have the change finalized in time for the school board’s next election.
