Pulaski County Commissioners Voice Support for Broadband Grant Application

Efforts to improve broadband access in Pulaski and nine other nearby counties got the support of the Pulaski County Commissioners Monday. They agreed to sign a letter of support for the Wabash Heartland Innovation Network’s plan to apply for grant funding.

Alliance Bank President and CEO Shane Pilarski discussed the effort on behalf of WHIN during Monday’s joint county council and commissioners meeting. “Pulaski County is one of the 10 counties part of this region, and they would like to partner with Purdue to apply for an $8 million grant to make broadband internet more readily available, be part of kind of a test lab to make faster, reliable internet part of that region,” Pulaski explained.

She added that WHIN has begun working with some internet service providers, but at this point, the effort is still in testing phases. The group promotes the use of internet-enabled sensors to develop digital agriculture and next-generation manufacturing, while also investing in placemaking projects that increase education, vitality, and prosperity.
