Pulaski County Coroner Announces Retirement, Republicans Schedule Caucuses

Pulaski County will soon have a new coroner. John Behny has announced his retirement from the position, effective at the end of the year.

As for what prompted the decision, Behny simply says the timing is right. He tells WKVI News that his administration has attained the goals he set when he took office. Behny notes that the Coroner’s Office now has an actual office space, which goes a long way when it comes to processing the necessary paperwork, which can include reports to various federal agencies, depending on the case.

Beyond that, he says the Coroner’s Office has established relationships with those in neighboring counties, which Behny says is necessary to do the job. But he says one of his office’s biggest accomplishments is making sure decedents and families are treated with respect and dignity.

The Pulaski County Republican Party has scheduled a caucus to find someone to fill the remainder of Behny’s term. It will be held Monday, December 23 at 5:00 p.m. EST at the Pulaski County Public Library in Winamac. Behny says he’ll still be available to help out after the new coroner takes over.

Pulaski County Republicans will also caucus on Wednesday, December 18 at 11:00 a.m. at the Schramm Law Group office in Winamac to fill a vacancy on the Monroe Township Board.
