Candidates Start Filing for 2020 Elections

The first day of candidate filing ended with a few familiar names on the May primary ballot. In Starke County, County Council Member Brad Hazelton is seeking the Democratic Party’s nomination for District 1 County Commissioner, the seat currently held by Kathy Norem.

Meanwhile, Democrat Bill Crase is seeking reelection as county surveyor, Republican Charlie Chesak is running for a second term as District 3 county commissioner, and Democrat Kay Chaffins is seeking her first full term as county treasurer.

Pulaski County has two candidates vying for the District 1 county commissioner seat currently held by Jerry Locke. Terry Young is looking to regain the seat, after he was unseated by Locke in the 2016 Republican primary. Monterey Town Council Member Doug Denton is seeking the Democratic Party’s nomination. Meanwhile, Recorder Sue Fox and Treasurer Teresa L. Bryant are both running for reelection on the Republican ticket.

Dan Murphy has filed for Republican state convention delegate, while Murphy, Bryant, Holly VanDerAa, Susan Overton, and Lenora Hoover have all filed for the Republican Precinct Committee.

Candidate filing for the 2020 primary continues until February 7.
