A couple LaPorte County school districts have been awarded funding through the Indiana Department of Education’s STEM Acceleration Grants. The department says it opened a second round of grants for this school year, since additional funding was available.
The LaPorte Community School Corporation received almost $53,000, while the South Central Community School Corporation got $40,000. That money can be used to “accelerate, scale, or implement” a science, technology, engineering, and math curriculum, including teacher training and support. A big goal is to boost students’ achievement and participation in STEM subjects, while exposing students of all ages to STEM career opportunities.
A total of 24 school corporations received funding during this grant round, after 34, including the Culver Community Schools Corporation, were awarded grants in the last round.
