The ballot for the May primary is starting to take shape. In Starke County, the most hotly-contested office so far appears to be county treasurer. Incumbent Kay Chaffins is running for her first full term, but she faces a Democratic primary challenge from Monica Miller. As it currently stands, the winner would face Republican Tom DeCola in November’s General Election.
The District 3 County Commissioner’s seat is also getting some interest. Incumbent Republican Charlie Chesak has filed to run for reelection, while August Eckert is seeking the Democratic Party’s nomination. For District 1 County Commissioner, County Council Member Brad Hazelton is seeking the Democratic Party’s nomination. Incumbent Kathy Norem is not seeking reelection.
Republican Kay Gudeman is running for a full term on the county council, after joining as a mid-term replacement. Karl Swihart is running for the county council as a Democrat, while Democrat Bill Crase is seeking reelection as county surveyor.
Pulaski County has several incumbents running for reelection on the Republican ticket, including Auditor Laura Wheeler, Recorder Sue Fox, Treasurer Teresa Bryant, and Winamac Town Council members Tom Murray and Jim Watkins. John Masterson is seeking the Republican Party’s nomination for one of the three at-large county council seats. Democrat Doug Denton and Republican Terry Young have both filed to run for the District 1 County Commissioner’s seat currently occupied by Jerry Locke.
Several candidates have also filed for precinct committee and convention delegate positions, as well as state and federal offices. A complete list can be found on the Indiana Secretary of State’s website.
Candidate filing for the May primary continues until February 7.
