NJ-SP School Board Approves Donation to Assist Students’ Overdrawn Lunch Accounts

The North Judson-San Pierre School Board received an anonymous donation from a community member when they met Tuesday night.

Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin shared that the individual indicated that they wanted the money to go toward paying off overdue lunch account balances for kids on free and reduced lunch.

Board Vice President Sandy Kersting-Rudd noted that she was grateful for the donation but had a question. She asked how students who receive free lunches can rack up a negative balance if they’re not required to pay.

Dr. Zupin explained that sometimes children have the option to purchase an additional item at lunch and kids who receive free or reduced may buy one with the intention of paying for it eventually but then they’re unable to do so that is where the charges originate.

The donation, which totaled $250, was accepted by the Board without any opposition.
