North Judson Town Council Considers Special Event Permit Request for Mint Festival

Mint Festival Organizer Donna Henry came before the North Judson Town Council with a special event permit request when members met Monday night.

As usual, the event will be held Father’s Day weekend which will be June 19th through the 21st. Henry noted that the theme will be ‘Mint a Plenty in 2020’ and this year’s parade marshals will be Jim Kersting and the Kersting family.

Henry stated that for the most part, her request is the same as it has been in recent years. However, one change she was proposing had to do with setup.

She mentioned that last year they had vendors set up at 4:30 and she thought moving it to 3:30 would be more advantageous. She also said that organizers planned to coordinate with participating establishments to allow bigger vendors to set up before smaller ones to help things run more smoothly.

President John Rowe asked if 3:30 p.m. would be early enough, noting that the opening ceremony typically takes place at 5 p.m. and 3:30 may still be cutting it close. He asked if she would be willing to have the set up at 2 o’clock to give them even more time to get things in place.

Henry said she thought that would be beneficial for everyone involved and the council voted unanimously to approve the permit, with the start up time for vendors set for 2 p.m. on Friday, June 19th. They also voted in favor of waiving the associated fee.

Henry mentioned that the Mint Fest Committee will meet next at the North Judson-Wayne Township Public Library at 6 p.m. on Thursday, February 27th. Any one interested in helping out should plan to attend.
