Pulaski County Commissioners Approve Funding Commitment for Bridge Replacement

Pulaski County is seeking funding for the upcoming replacement of the bridge on County Road 400 East over Mill Creek. The county commissioners last week approved a commitment letter for its share of the project cost.

Jeff Larrison with United Consulting said it’s part of the application process for a Community Crossings matching grant. “It’s a 75-percent-25-percent type of grant, so 75 percent of the project’s going to be funded by the state,” he explained. “And what they want to do is this letter shows that you guys are committed to funding your 25-percent portion of the project, which is roughly $133,000.”

Larrison said that figure reflects current construction estimates, but the final cost will depend on the bids the county gets. He added that they’ll be able to start seeking bids, once the permits are received from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. “We should be at the tail end of getting that back,” he said. “I would think we’d get it next month, if it holds true to form. Then we finish up the design, which is basically the final tracings. We always wait until we get the permit back on that, and then that takes just a few days. Then we’ll come back to you with a cover sheet. You guys sign that, and then we can put the bid package together and take care of soliciting bids for you.”

Construction is expected to start in late spring or early summer.
