When the Starke County Commissioners met Monday night, they organized for the New Year.
No changes were made to the officers, with Commissioner Charlie Chesak staying on as President and Commissioner Bryan Cavender retaining his position as Vice President.
In addition to that, Commissioner Kathy Norem formally announced her plan to refrain from running again in the next election.
She noted, “I will probably have a lot more to say over the course of this year about things that have been done during the time that I was here and things that have been improved.”
Norem Continued, “I wanted it to be very public. I notified my party sometime back that I would not be seeking re-election and as people have been asking me, I have been confirming that.”
Commissioner Norem added how long she’s been on serving and what she is anticipating when she steps down.
She explained, “I’ve had three terms, twelve great years but it’s time for someone else to step up with some new and fresh ideas.”
As of Thursday, January 9th, County Councilman Brad Hazelton was the only individual who had filed to run for the District 1 Commissioners seat in place of Commissioner Norem.
Those interested in filling her position have until February 7th to file in the Starke County Clerk’s Office.
