The operator of the Bass Lake Beach and Campground has reportedly allowed the site’s liability insurance to expire. Starke County Park Board Member Kathy Norem told the rest of the board last week that she had asked the Auditor’s Office for an update on the insurance policy Callahan Development, LLC is required to have.
“He’s bad about that,” Norem said. “This is not the first time. When the commissioners [oversaw the lease] before the park board, we regularly had to stay on them to get their insurance, and the contract requires that they have liability insurance and name the county as an additional insured.”
While the Bass Lake Beach and Campground is owned by Starke County, Callahan Development, LLC has a lease on the property through April of 2028.
