Knox Schools Continue Dealing with Student Illnesses

Illnesses continue to create challenges for the Knox Community School Corporation. Schools were back open Tuesday, but many students were absent.

Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart told the school board Tuesday night that included 18 percent of the middle school students. “When it gets to be 20 percent, that’s when we have to talk to the local board of health and also the state,” he said. “Pretty much, we’d have to shut down if it gets up to 20 percent, so we’re that close.”

At Knox Elementary School, Principal Michelle Tarnow reported that the school started Tuesday with more than 80 students absent, and another 22 left early. She thanked School Nurse April Eskridge for all of her efforts during what’s been a very busy week. “And I just wanted to say what an amazing job our custodians have done,” Tarnow added. “We’ve kind of gotten together and strategized and attacked the building, and they’ve just really dug into it. They care a lot about our kids.”

The Knox Middle School custodians were recognized by Principal Jake Skelly.
