Financing for the proposed renovation of the Pulaski County Courthouse will be discussed during a joint county council and commissioners meeting tonight. County Attorney Kevin Tankersley and representatives from law firm Barnes & Thornburg will discuss bond counsel.
The county officials will also hear from fiscal consultant Jeffrey Peters and Todd Samuelson with accounting firm Baker Tilly. They’ll also discuss the possibility of hiring Data Pit Stop to help them consider various options for funding the upgrades while also reducing the county’s reliance on local income taxes.
Tonight’s joint Pulaski County Council and Commissioners meeting starts at 6:00 EST at the Pulaski County Highway Garage, followed by the council’s regular meeting at 7:00.
Coroner Jon Frain is expected to ask for a determination on whether his position is full- or part-time. “There’s nothing that says the coroner’s part-time,” Frain told the county commissioners last week. “It’s just like, I don’t know, a tradition?”
Frain said he isn’t asking for a change in salary, but noted that the coroner is the only office holder in the county who doesn’t receive benefits through the Public Employee Retirement Fund.
Council members will also meet tonight with Sheriff Jeff Richwine and Terri Hansen with the Pulaski County Health Department. They’ll also appoint representatives to the board of zoning appeals and the property tax assessment board of appeals.
