“The Hive” Gives Starke County Women Something to Bee-lieve In

The Hive Ladies Giving Circle will host their annual gathering in April this year! As a reminder, ‘The Hive’ is a local, ladies’ giving circle established through the Starke County Community Foundation. Each year, the members pay dues and that money is used to supply grants to help local charitable organizations fund projects and initiatives.

Representatives say the name “The Hive” comes from a comparison between the giving circle and the way honey bees work.

They shared that similar to the way that bees work together to produce honey that helps sustain the entire hive, the giving circle works together by pooling their resources in order to enhance the quality of life in the community.

The group is open to all Starke County women who are sixteen-years-of-age or older. Members who are 16 to 22 would pay monthly dues of $5 or $60 per year while members who are older than 22 are asked to supply a monthly contribution of $10 or a $120 yearly donation.

The grant application window will soon open up and local charities will have a chance to put their name in the running. Four of the applicants will then be selected by the Hive Grants Committee.

During the annual gathering, they will have a chance to speak about their organization and discuss how the funding will assist their cause. The amount of grant funding is determined by how many votes the various organizations gathered from Hive members.

The event will be held at the Nancy J. Dembowksi Community Center at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 23rd.

If you’re interested in getting attending, please RSVP by April 16th by contacting Hive Co-Founder Andrea Cox at 574-806-2210 or ajcox1042@gmail.com.
