The operator of the Bass Lake Beach and Campground is making sure its liability insurance meets the terms of its contract with Starke County.
During last month’s Starke County Park Board meeting, concerns were raised that Callahan Development, LLC has allowed the policy to expire. The company is apparently required to have the insurance and name the county on the policy, as a condition of its lease.
During this month’s park board meeting, President Richard Ballard explained that he’d since spoken with the insurance company, which sent him a certificate related to the policy. The facility’s manager, Larry Clarich, reassured board members that he’d make the next payment before the due date, but he said he still had to check on whether the county was named.
As for how the county should be listed, County Attorney Marty Lucas suggested “Starke County by its park board and board of commissioners,” since the commissioners are technically the owners.
