The Town of North Judson is once again seeking more quotes for the Norwayne Field splash pad project, after Vortex Aquatic Structures raised its cost estimate.
Back in October, the town council agreed to proceed with a $58,000 proposal. But now the company says it would cost closer to $69,000, according to Council Member James Young. “Our past representative, Bill Smith, has stepped down from Vortex and is no longer working for them, so we’ve been assigned a new representative,” Young told the rest of the council last week. “Upon conversation with our new representative, it has come to find out that they misquoted us, with terms to concrete depth and some of how the layout was going to be.”
Efforts are now underway to get two more quotes from other companies. He said that, so far, the equipment appears to be substantially cheaper, but he’s still waiting for final numbers.
Young also reported that town officials have reached out to the Indiana Department of Environmental Management for some guidance. “They said that it would be best if we ran it through the wastewater treatment side,” Young explained, “so we don’t have to worry about de-chlorination and constant testing and pretty much running a pool, which we don’t really want to do.”
Young hopes council members can lock down a quote during the next couple of meetings. The goal is to have the splash pad installed by the beginning of May, before the Mint Festival in June.
