Work on Hamlet’s Division Street project could start as soon as Monday. The street will be resurfaced from Railroad to Terry streets, and a sidewalk will be added on one side from Pearl to Terry.
The sidewalk work had to be scaled back due to cost constraints. The town council Wednesday finalized an updated contract with Walsh & Kelly for just over $138,000. That’s down from the company’s initial bid of almost $173,000. Seventy-five percent of the cost will be covered by a Community Crossings Grant from the state.
Street Superintendent Kevin Leinbach told council members that Walsh & Kelly plans to do the sidewalk portion first.
