Winamac Police Chief Stepping Down

Winamac’s police chief is stepping down. Mark Hoffman is resigning from the chief’s position, citing personal reasons. He’s expected to remain on the police force, though.

The town council officially accepted his resignation letter during a special meeting Tuesday and appointed retired Town Marshal Mike Buchanan to serve as part-time interim chief. Buchanan will be paid $27 per hour, and he’s expected to work about 20 hours a week, according to Town Manager Brad Zellers.

Hoffman had served as Winamac police chief for the past two years.
