North Judson Town Superintendent Urges Residents Not to Flush Wipes, Socks Down the Toilet

Don’t flush socks down the toilet. That was one of several reminders given by North Judson Town Superintendent Joe Leszek during last week’s town council meeting.

He said the town’s had some lift station issues. “What’s happened is someone’s been flushing socks, and the elastic in the socks is just winding up the pump,” Leszek explained. “The cutter pump’s not able to cut it. It binds it up. Then it overloads that pump.” Another lift station is getting clogged by wet wipes.

When it comes to brush pickup, Leszek asked residents to limit brush piles to four-to-five feet in length and three-to-four-feet in height. “This last brush [pickup], we were able to do the whole town in about five-and-a-half hours, except for two residents, and those two residents took us three hours and five large dump trucks and the backhoe to get rid of what they had,” Leszek said. He noted that residents doing larger tree removal projects may either request to use the town dump or hire a company to remove the debris.

In his capacity as North Judson-Wayne Township fire chief, Leszek reported a large number of recent motorcycle accidents and asked motorists to be on the lookout for motorcycles on area roads.
