Knox City Council Agrees to Allow Preauthorization of Certain Claim Payments

The Knox City Council has officially given its permission for the clerk-treasurer to pay certain claims before the council has a chance to approve them.

Clerk-Treasurer Cyndi Mann-Kidder told council members Tuesday that her office has already been doing that, since it’s allowed by state statute. “We can do it, but since it was a state one and we do it here, they want us to have an ordinance within our city that says we can do it also, just to back it up,” she explained.

Council members approved an ordinance to that effect, at the recommendation of the State Board of Accounts. It applies to a number of types of claims, including license and permit fees, state and federal grant program payments, payroll, and tax payments.
