The Knox School Board Tuesday accepted what Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart called “a once-in-a-lifetime gift.” An anonymous donor has given the school corporation $300,000 to rebuild the high school track. “This donor had heard that we were going to redo the track,” Reichhart explained, “and the donor had run track for Knox and wanted to do something to give back to Knox and to the Redskin community.”
Reichhart said the work will involve taking the track back down to stone and installing new asphalt and a new topcoat layer. The donation will free up money in the school corporation’s project bond revenues for other uses.
The superintendent pointed out that donations of this size are largely unheard of. “In my career, I’ve never even come close to a six-digit gift like this,” Reichhart said. “So I just really appreciate it. I know our community will appreciate it as the word trickles out after tonight. I know [Athletic Director] Greg [Estok] is very grateful, and the board is, as well.”
Board members also accepted a $400 donation to the athletic department from alumnus Bobby Tincau.
