A man arrested after a LaPorte County police pursuit back in June has now been charged with first degree murder. LaPorte County sheriff’s deputies arrested Jose F. Zavala, 38, also known as Roberto Rodriguez-Zavalo, after he allegedly led them on a chase through the northern part of the county.
Police say they quickly learned that he was wanted in connection with a May 20 homicide in Wheeling, Illinois. The sheriff’s office says Wheeling Police detectives interviewed Zavala in the following days, and he’s since been charged with first degree murder in Cook County, Illinois Circuit Court.
Officers say he remains in the LaPorte County Jail and will eventually be extradited back to Illinois.
