Pulaski County has gotten funding to continue its Juvenile Detention Alternative Initiative programs. Pulaski Circuit Court was recently awarded a $58,000 grant from the Indiana Department of Correction, according to JDAI Coordinator Dr. Natalie Tucker.
She says in a press release that over $45,000 is being used for youth mentoring and truancy programs at both Winamac and West Central high schools.
Circuit Court Judge Mary Welker adds that JDAI programs help struggling youth learn additional ways to cope with their specific challenges. Welker says the programs have not only helped Pulaski County financially by reducing the amount of money spent on secure detention, but also by investing in the county’s youth.
