Winamac Prohibits Recreational Vehicles from Being Used As Permanent Homes

The Town of Winamac is banning the use of recreational vehicles as permanent homes. The town council passed an ordinance Monday prohibiting residents from using trailers, RVs, campers, boats, and other vehicles as a primary residence, unless they’re in a designated mobile home park.

Individuals may occupy a recreational vehicle on a temporary basis, up to seven days within a 30-day period. “If you own one, and you want to camp in your driveway this weekend, you can,” Town Manager Brad Zellers told council members.

Violators will face fines of up to $100 per violation and up to $250 for repeat violations. The ordinance will take effect 30 days after notice is published in the newspaper.
