The Eastern Pulaski School Board has adjusted the pay structure for substitute teachers. Board members approved the change this month, at the recommendation of Superintendent Dara Chezem. “Our sub pay is extremely difficult to track, based on the current policy,” she explained. “Currently, subs get paid one rate for their days one to 20 and then another rate for days 20 plus, and that’s not consecutive days.”
Under the new structure, subs will now have to work 16 consecutive days to get bumped up to a higher pay level. Subs without a teaching license will make $77 per day, going up to $100 on the 16th consecutive day. Those with a teaching license will be paid $85 per day up until day 16. At that point, they’ll be paid the rate specified by Indiana Code.
The Eastern Pulaski School Board also officially updated the staff performance evaluation policy. Chezem said student assessments won’t be factored into teacher evaluations this year, since last year’s ILEARN was canceled. “Administrators complete both short, 10-minute observations, along with long, 40-to-60-minute observations of classroom instruction,” Chezem explained. “Probationary teachers less than three years will have two long and two short observations. Veteran teachers have one long and one short observation. Additional observations may be completed at either the teacher or the administrator’s request.”
The school board also updated the Teacher Appreciation Grant distribution policy, to bring it in line with the state’s requirements.
