Enrollment is down at the Knox Community School Corporation. “1,716 is our ADM, which is 37 less than what we had in the spring and 50 less than what we had a year ago in the fall,” says Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart.
The official average daily membership count was taken on September 18. It determines how much Education Fund money each school corporation gets from the state. The Indiana State Board of Education decided to hold the count as scheduled, in spite of COVID-19. But the state board also agreed to fund many virtual students at the same level as in-person students.
The Knox School Board got an update on the proposed 2021 budget last week. Reichhart says one area of concern is employee health insurance. “We’ve had several employees sign up for our health insurance during our open enrollment period, plus we had a six-percent increase in our health insurance premium,” Reichhart explains. “So between those two, we have about a $350,000 increase in our health insurance for 2021, so that’s pretty substantial.”
The Knox Community School Corporation’s 2021 budget proposal totals just over $20 million. More than $12 million of that would be the Education Fund, while almost $5 million would be the Operations Fund.
Reichhart says no comments were offered from the public during last month’s hearing on the budget, capital projects plan, and bus replacement plan. They’ll be up for adoption next Tuesday.
