This Saturday will bring a couple of chances to get active outdoors in North Judson. Starke County Tourism’s Bloomers Run will start at 10:00 a.m. CDT Saturday at the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum.
It had originally been planned for April but was delayed by COVID-19. Participants can choose from a 5K run or a one-mile fun run or walk. The event will also feature a “best bloomer contest.”
Tourism board representative Mark Rippy told the town council last week that all of the sponsors that signed up in the spring have agreed to stay on. He said Starke County Tourism has agreed to give some of the proceeds to the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum, since it’s the county’s biggest tourist destination.
On Saturday afternoon, The Erie Trail Travelers will hold their Chili Ride. The bike ride or walk sets off at 3:00 p.m. from the Trail Rest Park, with registration starting at 1:00, according to the group’s Facebook page. Proceeds will benefit their trail maintenance efforts.
The Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum will be involved in both events. Museum President Todd Flanigan told the North Judson Town Council last week that the museum will give train rides to some of the Bloomers Run participants. Some of the museum’s equipment is also expected to make an appearance at the Trail Rest Park for the Chili Ride.
