The Town of Hamlet’s 2021 budget was adopted by the town council Wednesday. “Adopted budget is $459,065,” said Council President Dave Kesvormas. “Adopted tax levy is $272,563. Adopted tax rate is 2.1840.”
That includes a General Fund of just over $322,000, a Motor Vehicle Highway Fund of about $55,000, and an Economic Development Fund of $55,000. The Cumulative Capital Development Fund was cut to $5,500, a drop of $1,750 from this year’s budget.
As usual, Kesvormas abstained from voting on the budget because he’s a volunteer firefighter, but not without criticizing that requirement. “Because of my membership, it’s almost like it makes me less than a board member,” he said. “It doesn’t allow me to fulfill all my duties because they’re worried I’m going to twist your arm with money we don’t have to buy a fire truck or something ridiculous.”
Hamlet’s 2021 budget now goes to the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance for final approval.
