A LaPorte resident was arrested, after a police pursuit through LaPorte County and into Michigan Thursday. The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office says Michigan City Police pulled over a vehicle driven by Lavidika S. Johnson, 34, around 2:15 Thursday morning.

Officers learned that Johnson was wanted by the Sheriff’s Office for felony escape, and Johnson allegedly sped off and eventually led officers on a chase on U.S. 12 toward the Michigan state line. A LaPorte County sheriff’s deputy reportedly saw the vehicle a short time later heading south on State Road 39.

Johnson allegedly led police into LaPorte, then back the other way on State Road 39 into Michigan, back into Indiana on U.S. 12, and then finally back the other way into Michigan. Police say the chase ended when Johnson crashed the vehicle in a wooded area near U.S. 12 and Clay Street.

Johnson was taken into custody by LaPorte County Police and was then turned over to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office, who took Johnson to the Berrien County Jail. LaPorte County and Michigan City police plan to seek arrest warrants through the LaPorte County Prosecutor’s Office, and Johnson is expected to be extradited back to Indiana.
