North Judson officials say they’re already seeing the benefits of the town’s new grocery store. Grand Central Grocery at Lane and Adair streets held its grand opening and ribbon cutting on Friday. Town officials and residents shared their excitement during Monday’s town council meeting.
North Judson had been without a grocery store since the closure of Heartland Market. Not only is Grand Central Grocery providing access to food options that had been lacking for months, but Council President John Rowe noted that it’s also bringing people downtown. “I hope we can pull from San Pierre and from Toto and from Denham and all those places,” he added. “That would be ideal for us.”
Going forward, the business hopes to expand into the former Heartland Market across the street. Starke County Economic Development Foundation Executive Director Larry Wickert said the owners plan to start offering canned goods and dry goods there by the end of the year.
