North Judson Looking to Partner with Ball State on Downtown Façade Program, Main Street Designation

Downtown North Judson could soon see some improvements. Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe told the town council Monday that discussions are underway with Ball State University to implement some of the goals developed in the recent comprehensive planning process.

“They would basically take our plan and what we’re looking to do, and they would institute a façade grant program that lays out all the stipulations of funding requirements, applications, all the nitty-gritty of all that,” Rowe explained.

On top of that, Ball State would also help North Judson reestablish is Main Street organization. “The Main Street association is a huge arm when it comes to OCRA grants for small things,” Rowe added, “whether it’s $10,000 to put new planters, benches and trash cans downtown, all the way up to tens of thousands of dollars if you want to do full-on new light poles and that kind of stuff.”

Rowe said the plan is to get the effort rolling next spring or summer. Similar efforts have been taking place in Knox.
