A pre-Halloween compliance sweep has led to possible arrest warrants for two non-compliant sex offenders in LaPorte County. Various agencies teamed up Thursday to check on all 104 sexually violent predators and offenders against children, in what they’re calling Operation Scare and Beware.

The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office says investigations have been launched into the two who were out of compliance, and arrest warrants will be sought. Officers say they hope to find and arrest them before Halloween. The rest of the offenders were “strongly encouraged not to participate in trick-or-treat.”

The Sheriff’s Office reminds parents that they can find the location of registered sex offenders online, so they can decide which homes their kids should avoid this Halloween. Traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating is already considered a “higher-risk activity” by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, due to the risk of spreading COVID-19.
