The Pulaski County Jail’s new body scanner is already proving to be a good investment, according to Sheriff Jeff Richwine. “It’s already found its first contraband, so it’s already paid off to that extent, I think,” he told the county commissioners Monday.
The scanner is designed to detect weapons, drugs, and anything else that shouldn’t be brought into jail, without the need for jail staff to physically touch the inmates. The $159,000 cost will be covered with federal CARES Act money.
A formal ordinance outlining how Pulaski County will spend its share of the CARES Act will be up for the commissioners’ approval during Monday’s joint session with the county council.
