Starke County’s Court Appointed Special Advocates program added two more volunteers Thursday. Rosemary Rose and Shannon Ryan were sworn in after their final training class Thursday, according to Starke County CASA Program Director Connie Deal. She says the ceremony was held virtually for the first time, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As CASAs, they’ll help guide abused and neglected kids through the court system. Thursday’s swearing-in brings Starke County’s CASA program up to about 18 volunteers.
But Deal says there’s still a huge waiting list of kids, and there’s always a need for more volunteers. The next training class is expected to be held in the spring, but a winter class may be added if there’s enough interest.
