The Town of Winamac will soon be paying more for electricity, but how much of an increase gets passed along to customers remains to be seen. The Indiana Municipal Power Agency told the town that the cost of electricity will go up by about three percent starting January 1, according to Town Manager Brad Zellers.
“A lot of the rate increase will be absorbed, and we won’t really see a lot of that due to the tracking factor,” Zellers told the town council Monday. “That takes care of the rate increase. However, internal operations and things, we could lose a little on that.”
Zellers said the town will work with accounting firm Baker Tilly to figure out how much the town would have to adjust what its customers pay and try to keep any increase as small as possible.
