A longtime North Judson business owner and community volunteer is being recognized by the Starke County Community Foundation. Dave Altman was presented with the foundation’s 2020 James R. Hardesty Leadership in Philanthropy Award on Giving Tuesday.

Foundation officials note that he retired from owning and operating Altman’s Lawn Service last year. He’s also worked as a farmer and teacher. On top of that, Altman has been involved with a number of organizations, including the North Judson United Methodist Church, North Judson Kiwanis Club, and North Judson-Wayne Township Public Library Board, among others.

He’s been on the Starke County Community Foundation’s board for 12 years and has served on the board’s president and on the Northern Indiana Community Foundation board. Altman and his family have also established a scholarship fund, as well as a fund to support charitable needs in the county.

The foundation says Altman “is the volunteer that one can always rely on to show up at events, speak if needed at those events, and talk with community members about the Foundation’s mission.”
