Domestic Highway Enforcement Leads to Three Arrests in LaPorte County

The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office made three arrests in less than three hours Wednesday on the Indiana Toll Road, as part of the Domestic Highway Enforcement program.

Sheriff’s deputies say they pulled over an eastbound passenger vehicle for a traffic violation and a search turned up a large amount of a liquid schedule V controlled substance. Two passengers, Nathan A. Becoats, 26, and Tevaughn D. Carver, 28, both of Rochester, New York, were taken to the LaPorte County Jail on suspicion of drug dealing.

Later Wednesday, a van going the other way was pulled over for allegedly following another vehicle too closely. While searching the van, deputies say they found a .40 caliber handgun. The driver, Darron D. Lawrence, 37, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin was arrested. He’s accused of being a serious violent felon in possession of a firearm.

The Domestic Highway Enforcement program is an effort aimed at disrupting the flow of drugs and weapons. It’s one of the programs put in place as part of LaPorte County’s High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area designation.
