South Bend Man Accused of Vehicle Theft, Drug Possession following LaPorte County Traffic Stop

Driving a stolen vehicle with illegal drugs inside is what LaPorte County Police say landed a South Bend man in jail Wednesday night. A sheriff’s deputy says he was driving west on U.S. 20 near U.S. 35 when a computer check on the license plate of the vehicle in front of him revealed that it had been reported stolen.

Deputies pulled it over on I-94. When they took an inventory of the contents, police say they found illegal drugs.

The driver, Joshua A. Kendall, 32, faces potential felony charges of vehicle theft and possession of marijuana with a prior conviction. He’s also accused of the misdemeanor offenses of possession of a synthetic drug or look-alike substance, possession of a controlled substance, and operating while never licensed, prior offense.

Kendall was taken to the LaPorte County Jail but was released after posting bond.
