Winamac’s new garbage company may have to wait a few years before increasing the town’s rates. Waste Management completed its $4.6 billion acquisition of Advanced Disposal earlier this fall.
During Monday’s town council meeting, Town Manager Brad Zellers noted that Waste Management was a lot more expensive during the last round of bidding. “They were, by far, the highest, almost,” Zellers said, “not quite twice of what Advanced was.”
But Zellers said the company is locked into a contract for now, “So hopefully, we luck out, and it’ll get us at least, maybe another three years. We’ve still got several years left on it, so three left on the contract.”
Zellers said Advanced Disposal had also promised to limit any increases to a certain percentage for another three years after that.
