An organization supporting some of Starke County’s most vulnerable residents got a $1,000 boost Tuesday. Community Services of Starke County was awarded a “pop-up grant” from the Starke County Community Foundation. Foundation representatives surprised Community Services Executive Director Charmaine Dunkel with balloons and a giant check.
It’s part of the community foundation’s 25th anniversary celebration. Each month throughout the year, a different nonprofit will be chosen for a surprise $1,000 grant. Director of Development Jessica Martinović says the recipients are selected by an ambassadors club made up of former board members.
Martinović cited Community Services’ role in providing utility and rent assistance to those dealing with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The $1,000 can be used to help support the organization’s general operations.
