A Knox resident is dead after a crash on State Road 39 in LaPorte County. The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office says it happened just before 1:00 a.m. Saturday near County Road 1800 South.
Officers believe Lorie A. Myers, 45, was driving southbound and failed to negotiate a curve. The 2015 Hyundai Tucson is believed to have traveled straight off the roadway along an embankment for more than 300 feet before colliding head-on with a tree. Police say the SUV was fully engulfed in flames by the time they got there. Myers was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Knox-Center Township and Hannah Township volunteer fire departments, LaPorte County EMS, LaPorte County Coroner’s Office, and John’s Garage also responded.
