The Knox Community School Corporation has raised the pay rates for substitute teachers. The new pay rates were approved by the school board last week, at the recommendation of Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart.
“Of course, with this past year, with the pandemic, we’ve needed more subs, and we just haven’t been able to get it for various reasons,” he explained. “But even without the pandemic, we really need to consider raising those rates up to make it competitive with other school districts around us. I mean, it’s a challenge for our substitutes to come in.”
Those with a substitute teaching certificate will now get $70 per day. Those with a valid teaching license or associates degree will get $80 per day, while retired public school teachers will earn $90 per day. That amounts to daily increase of $10 to $20. The last time Knox Schools raised the pay for substitute teachers was 2008.
