Knox students will head back to class a day later than previously thought next school year, after school officials apparently miscounted the number of class days. Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart told the school board last week that the 2021-2022 school calendar had an extra student day in the first semester.
The calendar was reviewed by several people and approved by the school board in November, before anyone noticed the error. “We’ve discussed this with teachers and they’ve counted them and we counted them, and we both missed it,” Reichhart said.
The school board unanimously approved the corrected calendar. It moves the first student day to Thursday, August 5.
Following last week’s meeting, Reichhart highlighted a plaque recently received from the Indiana School Board Association, recognizing the Knox School Board for “displaying continued evidence of leadership and exemplary governance.” The board received a “commendable” recognition, the lowest of the four recognition levels given by the association.
