Kid’s Closet and the North Judson United Methodist Church Food Pantry cut the ribbon on their permanent home Wednesday. The church’s outreach ministries moved into the building on the west side of North Judson on State Road 10 just over two years ago. After years of raising funds and applying for grants, they were recently able to buy it outright from the Bailey family for $75,000.
Kid’s Closet Director Linda Lewandowski says the move roughly tripled the available space. “Oh my goodness. I mean, for a while, we were in the basement, and we thought, ‘We just can’t do this down here anymore,’ and then the Baileys offered this for a reasonable rent, and it’s amazing,” Lewandowski says. “I can’t imagine going back to the church basement. As you can see, we’re filled.”
The North Judson United Methodist Church Food Pantry holds drive-through distributions on the first and third Thursdays of each month from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Director Jose Marquez says his next project is to get a walk-in cooler. He says the pantry has access to more meat but is currently limited in where it can put it.
