The Knox School Board will consider a number of policy updates tonight.
They were recommended by policy consultant NEOLA to bring the school corporation in line with current state and federal laws. Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart told board members last month that one would prohibit the board from entering into a new contract with a superintendent during the “lame duck” period between a school board election and when the new members take office the following January.
“The idea behind it is so that the old board can’t hire a new superintendent because the new board may have ran on a platform to get rid of the old superintendent,” Reichhart explained, “so that’s how that works.”
Another proposed policy stipulates that statewide assessment scores may not be the main factor when deciding whether a student is eligible for a particular course or program. Other policies would deal with academic credit for students facing suspension or expulsion and testing of drinking fountains for lead.
In other business tonight, the Knox School Board will get an update on the school corporation’s building project and consider a service agreement with the JESSE Cooperative. Thousands of dollars in donations will be presented for negative lunch account balances, the Redskin Academy, and other expenses.
Tonight’s Knox School Board meeting starts at 6:30 in the Knox Schools Administrative Office.
