LaPorte Man Allegedly Refuses to Stop for Police, Loses Control of Vehicle on Snow-Covered Roads

Cutting off a police officer in traffic and trying to lead him on a pursuit on snow-covered roadways reportedly led to a crash and an arrest for a LaPorte man. A LaPorte County sheriff’s deputy says he was driving west on State Road 2 approaching J Street around 6:30 Tuesday morning, when a vehicle suddenly exited a business in front of him.

Officers say the vehicle was sliding as it traveled south on J Street, passed another vehicle on the right, failed to stop when officers tried to pull it over, and disregarded a stoplight. Police say the deputy ended up terminating the pursuit but then saw the vehicle spin out of control on the curve at State Road 2 and 18th Street and eventually leave the roadway.

Timothy J. Thomas, 59, was taken to the LaPorte County Jail. He’s accused of resisting law enforcement and aggressive driving.
