LaPorte Man Allegedly Resists Arrest, Dents Police Car with Head

A LaPorte man is accused of resisting law enforcement and criminal mischief, after he allegedly dented the hood of a police car with his head. Sheriff’s deputies say it began just before 5:00 Saturday morning, when they saw a man standing next to a parked, snow-covered vehicle near the intersection of U.S. 35 and Jefferson Avenue.

Police say they made contact with the man, identified as Ryan J. Faatuai, 36, as he was walking down the middle of Jefferson Avenue. Deputies call his behavior “extremely unnatural, including his statements not making any sense.”

Officers then reportedly tried to handcuff him, but he physically resisted. Once they had him in custody, deputies say Faatuai became increasingly frustrated and agitated. That’s when police say he “suddenly and violently slammed his head against the hood” of the patrol car.

Faatuai was taken to the LaPorte County Jail. In addition to criminal mischief and resisting law enforcement, he’s also accused of unlawful possession of a syringe.
