The North Judson-San Pierre School Board will consider some policy updates related to student assessments tonight. One would specify that assessments could not “be used solely for placing students in grade levels or programs,” according to Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin.
“If a student performs extra well or extra poor on a test, you cannot use that solely as, ‘Oh, we’re going to put them in a higher grade or put them in a lower grade,’” Zupin told board members last month. “A test score should not be used as a sole measure, and we agree with that wholeheartedly.”
Another update would prohibit state assessments from negatively impacting employee performance ratings. But Zupin says that many of the updates recommended by policy consultant NEOLA are simply grammatical or technical changes, with little impact on North Judson-San Pierre’s operations.
In other business tonight, a special education agreement with the JESSE Cooperative will be up for approval, and the board will get updates on the schools’ COVID-19 response and the elementary school project. Tonight’s North Judson-San Pierre School Board meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. in the Central Office Board Meeting Room.
