The Knox Community School Corporation’s alternative high school has gotten a $1,000 boost. The school board recently accepted an anonymous donation for the Redskin Academy.
Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart said it’ll be put to good use. “We had a person call us and ask what they could do,” he explained, “and we’ll probably try and use some of that for incentives for those kids to get them to earn their credits towards graduation. Sometimes they need gas cards and things like that.”
The Redskin Academy was up to 51 students last month, according to Director of Curriculum and Instruction Peggy Shidaker. She said the program added 11 high school students who’d fallen behind during the course of the pandemic, including six seniors. Shidaker added that they’ve been working very hard to earn the necessary credits.
The Knox School Board also accepted a $1,000 donation from the First Presbyterian Church of Winamac for miscellaneous student expenses and almost $565 from Brian Anderson for negative lunch accounts at the elementary and middle schools.
