Driving 96 miles per hour on U.S. 421 with a partially-consumed bottle of alcohol and an open case of beer is what police say landed a Kouts man in jail Tuesday. LaPorte County sheriff’s deputies say they pulled over a vehicle driven by Brett G. Bucher, 31, near County Road 1800 South around 6:30 p.m.
Bucher was taken to the LaPorte County Jail on suspicion of two misdemeanor counts of operating while intoxicated. He was released Wednesday after posting bond.
It was the second speeding-related arrest made by the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday. Tama R. Riley, 62, of New Carlisle, is accused of reckless driving after allegedly going 102 miles per hour on State Road 2.
Police remind motorists that anyone going 20 miles per hour over the posted speed limit may be charged with reckless driving, while speeds exceeding 90 miles per hour on any road could result in a custodial arrest.
